God Knows When We Get Down

In Alaska there is double the rate of suicide than the national average.  There is actually a correlation between the higher the latitude and the higher rate of suicide.  The reasons are not exactly clear but seems to involve the amount of sunlight you receive over the day.  This should be a warning to those here in Alabama considering the shortened days and the inability to be outside in the sunshine.  What does this have to church?  There was those in the Bible that also got the blues.  Elijah would be an example of this in 1 kings 18 and 19.  After defeating the prophets of Baal and Ashtoreth, the queen, Jezebel, threatened his life and he went to pieces and hid out in the wilderness.  But what is encouraging about this section of scripture is how God provided what Elijah needed. God sent an angel to feed Elijah and allowed him to rest and fed him some more.  Elijah needed encouragement and restoration of his weary soul. God provided the need.  God understands us better than we understand ourselves.  Our needs need to be made known to our Father in heaven in prayer. James 4:2 states, “we have not because you ask not.”  Prayer is a wonderful life line for when life seems to get you down. This week do not forget to pray for He cares for you (1 Pet. 5:8; Ps. 55:22).

Love you all,

Bryan
